As much as possible, I support my body so it can function as it was designed based on my research. Each hormone and each body system works with our brain to keep everything in a state of balance (homeostasis). As I stared at the ceiling, tired and exhausted yet unable to sleep, I wondered if there was anything I could do or change to possibly get some sleep. With prescription sleep medication no longer working, I began to research, and over time I saw a bigger picture emerge. With the proper systems in place, maybe I could support better sleep or rest. Insomnia. Sleepless nights. Panic attacks. Nightmares. These had become part of my life, and I accepted that this was just how life would be for me. Sleep had become a huge problem as I suffered from insomnia for days on end. Eventually I was prescribed sleep medication to get some relief, but I began needing higher and higher dosages.
