Bath Safety and Essential Oils

Bath Safety and Essential Oils
Don't just drop essential oils into bathwater‼️ Why? Oil and water don't mix, oil floats on water right?

In the tub oils tend to disperse towards the edges of the tub and likely you're in the middle of the tub. Then when they find your skin they cling (undiluted) to your skin and can cause irritation or undesirable reaction so what's a gal (or guy) who wants an aromatic spa experience and amazing skin benefits to do?

1. Bath salts *with* carrier oil, Castile soap. You can use either Himalayan salt or Epsom salts. I love Epsom salts after gardening or hiking. When mixing I like to put the salt first then the carrier oil or soap and then I drop the essential oil drops into the spot where the oil or soap is, mix it up and you're all set to go! Making bath salts without a carrier does not disburse the essential oils well enough.

2. Shower Gel or Castile soap with essential oils mixed in makes a nice bubbly bath. See info below for the shower gel I like. For a bath just mix 1 tablespoon of soap with 3-5 drops essential oil.

3. Carrier oil - if you really don't want any suds in your bath then at the very least mix your essential oils with a carrier oil. It will still float on top but it will be safely diluted at 1 tbsp carrier oil and 3-5 drops essential oil.

Finally choose your essential oils carefully. Heat not only increases the intensity of the essential oils but opens your pores. Essential oils like peppermint (contains menthol) are refreshing but intense so a tiny drop goes a long way. Spicy oils also increase in intensity so test and proceed with caution. Enjoy your bath time!

Here's a recipe and DIY workshop so you can see how super easy to make bath salts! Recipe and Workshop

Spring Breathing Challenges

I. Love. Spring❣️ everything is so fresh and new! Especially because warmer weather is here and more to come!! For many people allergies are in full swing too and so many people these days seem to really be having a tough time even if they never had allergies before.

That made me look into what essential oils are especially supportive and promote free breathing. I've read some pretty amazing studies and made an inhaler that might help. The science behind how oils work is amazing and goes far beyond something smelling good... Although that's true too but the naturally occurring chemical properties of plants is so powerful!

So much would depend on the quality of the essential oil brand because if the oil has been adulterated or has added filler then the natural properties that's supposed to be in the oil just aren't there and the blend is completely ineffective at the least. If it's adulterated with harsh chemicals or fillers then that's even worse since not only would they be ineffective but harmful in top of it 😣 then what's the point. Buyer beware and do your research! It matters what you put into your body and hormone disrupting chemicals wreak havoc. Learn more about the benefits of essential oils for your health here.

My Bunion Story - do you have bunions?

Bunion help and why massage your feet? Why is peppermint and tea tree essential oils so good for feet? Even if you don't have a bunion here's some good tips.

My bunion... 😣 It was so painful for so many years. These days it's no smaller but it is LOTS less painful !! Here's what I did:

First I checked some YouTube videos on bunion relief and found some that had massage techniques. So I explored massage methods and essential oils that would calm joints.

The massage techniques involve pulling the joint apart and moving the synovial fluid (lubricating fluid in joints) around. At first doing this was very painful because the joint was so very stiff. The result over time is zero pain because I keep up with daily massage and moving the joint around.

The other big help is choosing oils and carrier to support movement and calming the joint. One great choice is peppermint for it's menthol and 1,8 cineole (eucalyptol) which is also in tea tree. Both of those are also warming, calming to joints and good for getting rid of yuck that tends to be on feet and other dark damp environments. Cypress is another good choice. Sometimes at night though I'll just use my lavender cedarwood blend that I usually use for sleep.

We're really rough on our feet, they do lots of work! It's soothing to do a bit of self care massage even if you don't have a bunion. Another avenue to explore are pressure points and foot massage. It's so easy to massage ones feet and self care is so important for emotional and mental health and wellness.

Foot Soak Recipe

Tired feet? Callouses? Some tips...

Foot Soak Recipe
½ cup Epsom salts
2 TB kosher or sea salt or regular salt (I like sea salt for the extra minerals it provides)
2 TB baking soda
2 TB carrier oil (olive, almond, avocado) OR 2 TB Castile soap
5-8 drops total essential oil: peppermint, tea tree, rosemary, lavender, lemongrass, lemon are all good choices for feet. They're refreshing, keep things moving in the body and clean off all sorts of stuff we would not want on feet 😉 with some of the plant power like monoterpenols and ketones, eucalyptol and terpinen-4-ol in case you want to check specific benefits of the natural compounds.

Mix salts and remaining ingredients in order making sure essential oils mix with carrier oil or soap.

To use add 1TB to 8 cups foot bath or use as shower scrub.
Note: heat increases absorption of essential oils.

Follow this with some nice lotion, check out EWG.org to be sure the one you use is not toxic. Young Living has some really nice plant-based safe products.
